I’m really excited from looking at the brief. I’m really looking forward to completing this brief. I understand animation and it’ll be like making a real level for a game. I only used unreal engine twice but I really like the software and I prefer it over 3dx max any day.

My initial idea is a horror game where you have to find an exit. The player would be going through a really dark environment with random sound happening around them to make them think as if something is behind them or next to them along with that I would like to put jump scares to frighten and spook the player.

I have to make sure the game is interactive and has a narrative which I don’t think will be that hard. I can pick my own audience which would be people above 16 or 18 not quite sure yet. Also, I have to make sure I use assets and audio made by me or if it has a free license or if I get permission from the author/creator.

I think I’ll do just fine in this project. I understand animation, I’m good at concept and research. One thing I may struggle in is the unreal engine because I haven’t used it that often

SCP containment breach

This game was realised in 2012 on April and is a free and open source indie supernatural horror video game developed by Joonas Rikkonen. It is based on the paranormal fiction stories of the SCP Foundation website. The game is played in 3D from a first-person perspective and the protagonist is a human test subject in a facility devoted to containing and researching scientific anomalies.

The goal of the game is to escape from an underground SCP containment centre in the situation of a complete security breach leading to the escape of the contained and dangerous anomalies. The game has a procedurally generated play area created from a random selection of pre-existing rooms and hallways that are strung together to create the facility which is played in.

This game has a specific mechanic that I find interesting which is the blinking mechanic. This causes the player to blink randomly which could possibly end up killing the player as some of the creatures in the game only move when you’re not looking at them. The game also has a variety of creatures trying to kill you in different ways and different ways to escape them.

Outlast

Outlast was released on September 4, 2013, for download through Steam and it was released on February 4, 2014, for the PlayStation 4.

In Outlast, the player assumes the role of the investigative journalist as he navigates a dilapidated psychiatric hospital that is overrun by homicidal patients. The game is played from a first-person perspective and features some stealth gameplay mechanics. The player can walk, run, crouch, jump, climb ladders and vault over objects. Unlike most games, however, the player doesn't have a visible health bar on the screen and is unable to attack enemies. The player must instead rely on stealth tactics such as hiding in lockers, sneaking past enemies, staying in the shadows and hiding behind or under things in order to survive. The player can attempt to outrun their pursuer if there are brave in of. If the player dies, the game will reset to the most recent checkpoint.

Most of the hospital is unlit, and the only way for the player to see while in the dark is through the lens of a camcorder equipped with night vision. Using the night vision mode will slowly consume batteries, forcing the player to scavenge for additional batteries found throughout the building. Outlast makes heavy use of traditional jump scares and audio cues, which alert the player if an enemy has seen them. If the player records specific events with their camcorder, Miles will write a note about it, providing further insight into his thoughts. Documents can be collected, which offer backstory and other supplementary information about the hospital.

Amnesia: the dark descent

The game was released on 8 September 2010 and developed by Frictional Games. the game features a protagonist exploring a dark and foreboding castle while trying to maintain his sanity by avoiding monsters and other terrifying obstructions. Amnesia is an adventure game played from a first-person perspective. The game retains the physical object interaction allowing for physics-based puzzles and interactions such as opening doors and fixing machinery. Few in-game objects are operated by toggle; to open a door, for instance, the player must hold down a mouse button and then push (or pull) the mouse. This gives the player stealth, allowing them to peek out a barely-opened door or open it slowly to sneak away, but also adds to the player's sense of helplessness, as it is now entirely possible to attempt to push open a "pull" door while danger approaches from behind.
