
Deconstruction Of How Characters Are Created
Character creation starts with there background. the place that will influence the looks, personality and the player's view of the character. When coming up with a background for your character think about how it will look? Why does it look like that? What caused it to look like that? And what type of story will it give your character?
When the background is done you can get started on designing your character.
Start sketching out ideas for your character and remember to think about, is it human? What gender is it? Do they wear armor? What's their colour scheme? Etc,
Once you have settled on how your characters gonna look, finalize the sketch. Redraw it either traditionally or digitally, draw it from all sides, colour it and label what each important part does or why they have it.
Now if your character is gonna only be 2D then your finished however is it meant to be 3D then you will have to model it. I recommend doing it in pieces and only one half of it and later mirroring it
Potential Future For Game Characters
Hopefully in the future of game characters when it comes to potential is that there will be a more strong female main character or even side characters that wound end up damsels in distress.

Along with female characters, I believe there will be more non-human characters as it adds variety and humans characters could be seen as boring. With non-human characters, companies won't need to worry about stereotyping races and getting people offended about it.
